Abstract

The friction stir welding (FSW),is a new process, which is generally used for making quality welds between materials having a low melting temperature, such as aluminum, magnesium and copper. This process is gradually better known to companies, especially by the promotion of research institues like CEWAC (Belgium) and BIL (Belgium). The application for the welding of steel has a great potential in Belgium. this process is also interesting for the welding of special steel, which is often very difficult, but which are more and more to be used.
