Abstract

In the present investigation of copper driving band from the unused Russian cartridge of 30mm GSH HEI (Inert) was evaluated on the basis of its composition, microstructure, profile, radiography, hardness and compared with the CDB made indigenously as per the specificationof IS:191 given by Raksha Mantranalaya as per JSS 4710-1 Jan 1980. Visual observation and profile analysis of both the CDB revealed that Russian CDB has sharp profile and smoother surface in comparison to rough and curved profile of the indigenised CDB. The differences in size of geometrical regions on the CDB have been observed. X-ray radiographic analysis reve-aled that the Russian projectile has lower density / absorption inert material filling in the hollow region as compared to indigenised one.
