Abstract

Open hearth steelmaking is gradually being abondoned throughout the world and the trend to other methods of steelmaking continues. Problems of environmental pollution control and economic consideration were the main reasons for the replacement of open-hearth furnaces and a subs-tantial part of their output has already been replaced by electric furnace steel.
