Abstract

Until the sixties, the bulk steel production was obtained, thanks to the open-hearth process, with the starting-up of larger and larger capacity O.H. melt shops. In the areas rich in high phosphorus iron ore (Eastern France, Western Germany and Lincolnshire, UK) the pneu-matic refining of the high phosphorus hot metal had deve-loped considerably using Basic Bessemer Process.
