Abstract

This Session on Operational Aspects of Pneumatic Processes, consists of six invited papers from six different nations. The treatment given by the authors to the subject appears to be fairly complete. Before dis-cussing each paper individually, it is perhaps worthwhile to point out some of the similarities and common factors in all these papers. Five out of the six papers deal in some depth with combined blowing, a generic name given to a family of processes which attempts to combine the merits of both top and bottom blowing by incorporating some features of both. Five out of the six papers mention indi-vidual combined blowing processes like LD-KG(LD Kawasakai Gas), LBE (lance bubbling equilibrium), KMS(Kloeckner - Maxhuette Steelmaking process), etc. which are all comb-ined blowing processes experimented with by various companies in France, Luxembourg, Japan and West Germany. Despite the differences in the charactteristic features of these combined blown processes, all authors seems to agree.
