Abstract

Some wrought Al-Fe-Si alloy sheets with different Fe content and nearly unchanged Si content were prepared through ingot metallurgy route. The requisite specimens were subjected to total immersion in 3.5% NaCl and seawater, electrochemical test in 3.5% NaCl solution, industrial (Jamshedpur) and marine exposure (Digha) to assess their corrosion resistance properties. It has been observed that corrosion resistance is improved by reducing the Fe content i.e., enhancing Si/Fe ratio. Further, alloying addition of rare earth like mischmetal to one of the alloy containing Si/Fe = 0.9 improved its corrosion resistance.
