Abstract

There are several ways to prevent atmospheric corrosion of metals and alloys. Use of vapour-phase corrosion inhibi-tors (VCIs) has advantages over classical methods of corr-osion prevention due to its less cost, practicability, accessibility and reliability. A new oleochemical based VCI namely, benzoic hydrazide stearatc (BHS) was synth-esized and evaluated as corrosion inhibitors of mild steel, brass and copper by weight loss method. Eschke test method, sodium chloride inoculation test method and sulfur dioxide (SO,) test method were also carried out to investigate the corrosion inhibiting effect of the compo-unds. The investigated VCI exhibited good inhibition effi-ciency (1E) for all the metals under vapour phase condi-tions.
