Abstract

High strength aluminium alloys of the 7075 (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu) type containing 1.0 wt% each of Fe, Co, Mn, and Ni were rapidly solidified at 104 to 105 - Ks by the centrifugal atomisation and rapid solidification technique. The alloys obtained in the form of thin platelets of 3.0 to 5.0 mm in diameter were consolidated by compacting, vacuum heat treatment and hot extrusion. The microstructural features of the platelets and the consolidated rods were studied. The alloys were found to exhibit a moderate increase in tensile strength.
