Abstract

MANUFACTURE of different types of ferro-alloys in the country is imperative for the development of alloy, tool and special steel industry. For an alloy, tool and special steel plant of 0.5 million tonnes per year, the requ-irement of ferro-alloys would be of the order of 120 to 125 thousand tonnes excluding the general purposes ferro-manganese and ferro-silicon ineeded for plain carbon, mild and structural steels. Unless a ferro-alloy industry is fully established now, the requisite ferro-alloys will have to be imported at the expense of huge and precious foreign exchange.
