Abstract

Determination of hydrogen in metals and alloys has been done by carrier gas method using high purity nitrogen as a carrier gas. This technique avoids complicated vacuum systems; its initial capital outlay is extremely modest and maintenance and running costs are negligible. For routine analysis work the carrier gas method is more convenient than the conventional vacuum method, especially when the content of hydrogen is not less than l c.c. per 100 gms. Moreover this technique is definitely better for analysing metals of low melting point and high vapour pressure.
