Abstract

The paper describes an investigation of the structural modifications occuring during isothermal annealing in a Cr-Mn austenitic steel containing nitrogen, which was made at the National Metallurgical Laboratory of India at Jams-hedpur, as a part of their study on Ni-free austentic stainless steels. The influence of these modifications on low temperature intergranular brittieness and the susce-ptibility of the steel to grain boundary corrosion have also been studied.
