Abstract

SINCE the turn of the last century, developments in iron and steel production technology have been phenomenal both in scope and applications whilst retaining basic essence of principles of metal extraction and its processing. Deve-lopments in pneumatic processes for steel making, such as the L.D. oxygen converter process, OCP process, Kaldo and Rotor processes illustrate the phenomenal rapidity with which these processes have established themselves in less than a decade of their origin, whilst possibilities of continuous steel making and refining of pig iron are now emerging from their theoretical haze and may be entrenched at the end of another exciting decade.
