Abstract

THE Government of India have licensed several units for the manufacture of high tensile steel wire for various purposes including prestressed concrete construction. The capacity licensed so far is about 40,000 tons. India requires about 8,000 tons of high tensile steel wire ann-ually and the entire demand at present is imported. In view of the capacity already licensed, the Government of India do not propose to manufacture the same type of wire in the three steel plants in the public sector. The present production of high tensile structural bars and plates is about 300 to 400 tons per month. The public sector steel plants are expected to meet the demand for high tensile structurals, bars, and plates in the country.
