Abstract

Magnetite is one of the two major ore minerals of iron. It is a heavy black mineral with its characteristic metallic lusture and widely accepted as a viable and high quality feedstack for the production of premium quality, low impurity steel. The trend of Indian iron ore reserves(1) from 1980 onwards is shown in Fig. 1. The hematite ore reserves are 14630 million tonnes and that of magnetite ore 10619 million tonnes.
