Abstract

The 1st stage rotor blade of aero-engine no. HDR-80086U got damaged. Metallurgical analysis has been carried out to find out the cause of damage. No micro structural/material defect was observed. Microstructure, chemical composition analysis and hardness value of the blade material conform to Russian AE 961 W grade steel. SEM-EDS analysis showed that the blade was damaged due to an impact of Ca-Si-O bearing nonmetallic foreign object.
