Abstract

Iron and steel making encompasses a wide range of activ-ities which include beneficiation of iron ores, blast- furnace ironmaking, steel refining, casting, etc. Since its inception, the National Metallurgical Laboratory(NML) has been engaged in R&D work pertaining to several aspects of iron and steel making. This has led to the establish-ment of several commercial plants as well as processing techniques based on NML's know-how. Some of NML's major contributions are presented here.
