Abstract

THE non-ferrous metal industry in India has been passing through difficult periods due to successive emergencies and war crises in the country. As a consequence of these crises, a series of chain reactions have been set up notable amongst which has been the acute need for `Import Substitution' and `Self-Sufficiency'. These unforeseen events have undoubtedly cast their shadows on the general growth pattern of nonferrous metal industry in India which is by and large still dependent on large quantities of import.
