Abstract

Considering the increased complexity of the feed and the limitations of the present coal fines beneficiation / flotation circuit, studies were undertaken towards investigating the problem of poor performance during coal flotation and developing alternate circuit for improved processing of typically high ash coking coal fines. The paper deals with the results of the effects of particle size on flotability of coal and the application of spiral and Kameson Flotation Cell for treatment of coking coal fines. Based on these studies a modified beneficiation circuit involving splitting of 0.5 mm feed and separate treatment of coarse and fine fractions using spiral and Jameson Flotation Cell respectively has been suggested.
