Abstract

Limestone is the most mined and widely used industrial raw material next to coal and iron ore.It is used in the manufacture of cement, as flux in iron and steel industry and ferro-alloys and in fertilizer, chemical and paper industries and also as building material and ornamental stone. It occurs in all the States and distributed in most of the geological formations in India right from the pre-cambrian to recent.
