Abstract

Codes are available to predict alloy phase equilibria utilizing the thermodynamic properties of the phases involved. The equilibrium phases are conventionally predicted by the minimization of Gibbs energy. A technique called the ‘the technique of successive partial equilibration’ was introduced recently to predict phase equilibria. These algorithms were applicable to specific cases where an assumption was involved about the stability of one of the competing phases. A general algorithm is introduced here which involves no such assumption and can be extended to include any number of competing phases and to any order of systems.
