Abstract

Towers are vital components of the transmission lines, and accurate prediction of tower failure is very important for the reliability and safety of the transmission system. The KEC International Ltd has undertaken the erection of power transmission line of the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. The agency has erected several power transmission towers across the country on concrete foundations including few towers on Bihar Sharif- Koderma line. During the execution of the work one of such towers collapsed. The stringing on those towers in this line was completed but clipping was yet to be completed. The client was interested to know whether the cause of failure of the said transmission tower was due to the failure of the concrete foundation. Fig. 1 shows the collapsed transmission tower
