Abstract

Floatex density separator (FDS), the hindered settling classifier is used to separate the particles on the basis of their specific gravity. Optimum recovery of high quality products at a large throughput allows simpler and less costly operation in the FDS. However, a thorough understanding of the system dynamics is required to develop a proper control strategy of the FDS. This paper addresses some of the issues . Computational intelligence (CI) is primarily concerned with the development of computer systems that are capable of adapting to and exploiting information about their environments. Thus image processing and analysis acts as an important Cl technique that can be used for Floatex Density Separator to develop a process control system suitable for effect-ively manipulating this complex engineering system chara-cterized by relatively stow process dynamics.
