Abstract
Boilers are used to generate steam either to drive a turbine for electric power generation or to run plant and machineries in a process or manufacturing industry. They use fossil fuels or a nuclear reactor as the primary heat source. Our discussion however is mainly concerned with the metallurgical aspect of the fossil fuel fired boilers only. The design of a boiler is based on the principle of heat balance.
