Abstract

Collectorless batch flotation of a coking coal was carried out with frothers namely pine oil, MIBC and Nalco N-8586. All the frothers showed considerable collecting property. About 75-98% of the benchmark yield, 82.587% could be obtained at a reduced ash. Recovery of combustibles (96.1%) with N-8586, in case of -0.5 + 0.1 mm feed, was even higher than the benchmark value of 93.6% calculated from the sink-float data. Under the specified experimental conditions, pine oil, N-8586 and MIBC appeared to perform best with -0.5, -0.5 + 0.1 and -0.1 mm feeds, respectively
