Abstract
Solid-state reduction of Indian chromite with coke has been studied at low temperatures (1173 K-1373 K). The rate of reduction was studied as a function of temperature, time and ore/coke ratio. Reduction is favored by high temperatures and fine particle size of ore and reductant (coke). The reduction of chromium in the ore was found to be diffusion-controlled, and the activation energy was estimated to be 252 kJ/mol, in good agreement with data reported in literature.
