Abstract
A Cu-43at%Cd alloy was solidified at different cooling rates ranging from 10(0) to 10(6) K/s. For rapid solidification, (cooling rate similar to 10(6) K/s), a modified gun splat cooling technique was employed. Metastable crystalline and amorphous phases were obtained. Solid-state transformation of the alloy into equilibrium Cu4Cd3 was accelerated oil increasing the cooling rate.
