Abstract

THE Iron industry in Italy was very successful in the past when iron ores were reduced by charcoal, by artisans. But in the second half of the XIX century, a new process was developed in Great Britain, using pit coal for reduction of iron ores; this process spread quickly throughout Eur-ope, except, in Italy, because our country is lacking in this raw material.
