Abstract

The paper describes the reduction of naturally occurring MnO2 of manganese ores to acid soluble MnO for efficient leaching in dil. H2SO4/spent liquor from manganese metal/EMD cells. Experimental results of the batch tests indicating the effects of parameters like ore to reductant ratio, temperature, particle size, retention time etc. on the reduction characteristics and thermodynamics of the pertinent reactions have been discussed. The results have been utilised to design a 14 Kg/hr capacity continuous vertical reactor for the purpose.
