Abstract

Direct reduced iron, (DRI), can replace scrap to cool Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) heats. DRI as a coolant can efficiently be used requiring no modification. The paper explains the detail of such experiment, which consumed 400 tonnes of DRI in about 40 experimental heats in the 100/130 t BOF at BSL. The finer differences between the scrap cooled heats and DRI cooled experimental heats are elaborated in the paper.
