Abstract

The use of SEM in the investigation of metallurgical failures which occur in metals and materials under various fabricating conditions are described by citing a few case studies. Using ED analysis and x-ray mappings, SEM examination gave a deeper insight to diagonise the type of failure that occurred, indicating possible causes that were responsible under these operating conditions. This paper deals therefore with some SEM investigation carried out on failed carbon electrodes, carbon contact brushes, failed copper rods during drawing operation and corrosion failure of stainless steel components used in urea reactor.
