Abstract

The deleterious effect of phosphorus on the mechanical properties of iron and steel makes it incumbent on the part of producers to restrict the phosphorus content to an acceptable minimum by devising suitable techniques. This paper reviews the various processes developed for the removal of phosphorus to show how far they match the present day requirement and whether there are other methods on the horizon to suit the future development of quality steels.
