Abstract

The significance of the structure of liquid cast iron in terms of aggregation of carbon and iron atoms has been explained in this paper. This helps in the understanding of the morphologies on solidification. A brief description on classification of cast iron has been given. The thermal stability of different morphologies has also been included. (Shri C.S. Sivaramakrishnan, Scientist, National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur)
