Abstract

The yellow coloured complex formed by iron (III) with 3-bromo-2-hydroxy-5-methylacetophenon hydrazone in the pH range 2.5-4.0 has been studied spectrophotometrically at l max 400 nm. The complex is extractable into non-aqueous organic solvents such as chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl acetate, benzene etc. The composition and stability constant (at pH 3.0 and ionic strength 0.1 M (NaClO4) of the complex is found to be 1:3 and 8.30 x 1013 respectively. Beer's law is obeyed over the range 1.62-12.6 ppm and molecular extinction coefficient is 3.09 x 103 lit. mole-1 cm-1. Iron (III) was determined spectrophotometrically in the presence of several foreign ions. (Dr. Keemti Lal, Shrimati S.R. Malhotra, Chemistry Department, D.N. College, Meerut)
