Abstract

The constitution and mineralogy of blast furnace slags from six Indian steel plants have been described in brief. Liquidus temperatures of 19 blast furnace slags from Indian steel plants were determined by hot stage microscopy and classical quench methods. Melilite was found to be the primary phase, but in some slags spinel occurred as primary and melilite as secondary phase. The liquidus temperature of these slags varied from 1359°C to 1530°C. Behaviour of these slag samples near the liquidus point has been described. (Shri R.V. Hargave, formerly Scientist, NML; now with R&D Associated Cement Co. Ltd., Thane, Dr. M.R.K.
