Abstract
THE National Metallurgical Laboratory has now completed twenty five years in the service of the nation, During the span of last two and half decades, the Laboratory has gradually built itself to meet the change and challenge of time in the field of economic and social development of the country, The Laboratory's efforts for the utilization of indigenous resources and indigenous talent has materialised in fruitful results culminating in the establishment of a number of mineral and metal industries which have minimised and in some cases eliminated the import of foreign technology and foreign products, Setting up of many ore treatment plants and commercial production of sponge iron, NML PM-2 aluminium alloy conductor, electrical resistance alloys, graphite crucibles, special ferroalloys, metal powders, Welding flux etc, bear the testimony of the devotion of the staff of the Laboratory in f ulfi ling the pledge of making the country self-reliant and self-sufficient in her mineral and metal resources, A number of techniques and products are also in the pipeline for commercial production, However, much more remains to be lane and search and research must continue to build a better India. We, at the National Metallurgical Laboratory, renew our pleadge on this auspicious occasion to contribute all our might to this cherished goal.
