Abstract
Industrial scale trials on the production of high strength low steel plates based on niobium additions were carried out at the Rourkela Steel Plant of M/s Hindustan Steel Ltd. The investigation was a joint effort between the Rourkela Steel Plant and the National Metallurgical Laboratory. Niobium was added in ingot moulds and the slabs were rolled into 12mm plates and tested. Portions of some plates were also normalized and quenched and tempered in the National Metallurgical Laboratory. The paper gives the mechanical properties of these steels.
