Abstract

Several manufacturing units have been established in the country producing stainless steel safety razor blades depending entirely on imported stainless steel strips. With a view to determine the metallurgical characteristics of the steel strips used in the industry and to determine if any difference existed in the quality of the steel used by Indian manufacturers and the manufacturers abroad, the investigation has been carried out with several brands of Indian and foreign manufactured stainless steel safety razor blades. Results of chemical analysis, microhardness measurements and metallographic study have been reported. (Shri B.K. Guha, Scientist; Shri M.R. Kulkarni, Senior Scientific Assistant; and Dr. S.S.
