Abstract
Sample of low grade uraniferous quartz-chlorite schist analysing 0.043% U3O8, 13.0% Fe and 0.03% S and containing indigenous ferrobacillus group of bacteria were tested for amenability to heap and bacterial leaching. A leachability of 92.8% of the contained uranium was obtained in 10 weeks time using 9K nutrients for the growth of indigenous bacteria against 62.5% obtained in the same time without the use of bacteria by heap leaching method.
