Abstract

As a process for the production of castings with close dimensional tolerance and good surface finish, shell moulding has come to stay and is gaining importance day by day. Development and research work on resin, the most important raw material used in the shell moulding process, has made available quality resins to suit different moulding conditions. An attempt has been made to present briefly the chemistry of shell moulding resin, its requirements and properties as applied to shell moulding process. Different ingredients of the shell moulding sand and availability in India of the essential raw materials for the shell moulding process have been dealt with.
