Abstract

Comparative variation in hardness, tensile strength and elongation values has been studied for some Al-Mg-Si wrought alloys when these are artificially aged (conventional treatment) or aged isothermally at 170°C and 180°C. The results with three alloy compositions show that isothermally aged alloys indicate higher mechanical properties and higher ageing rates at 170°C compared to artificially aged alloys. It is noted that the beneficial effect of isothermal ageing is not appreciable. However, at 180°C the isothermally aged specimens show inferior properties. (Shri C. Sharma, Scientist and Shri S.
