Abstract

In advanced countries several creep-testing laboratories are providing valuable data to the designers and users of creep resistant steels and other alloys produced in their respective countries. A modest beginning was made at NML as far back as 1964 with 26 test points. In 1967, a proposal was formulated to expand the existing facilities to meet the increased demands of the industry. The projected Central Creep Testing Facility at the National Metallurgical Laboratory is primarily designed to undertake long term creep tests, research and development work on newer types of steels and to rationalize the number of indigenous steels.
