Abstract

Effects of different reduction variables like percentage of charcoal, particle size of charcoal and ore, and time of reduction on the percentage reduction and leaching recovery of manganese from high and low grade manganese ores have been studied. Nine to twelve percent charcoal depending upon the manganese content of the ore, with a particle size of -72 + 100 is found to give optimum reduction and leaching recovery of the order of 90-95% in about 30 minutes at a temperature of 680°C.
