Abstract

Diffusion coatings on metallic surfaces to improve the surface properties like corrosion resistance and wear resistance without affecting their core properties. It is found that chromium plating followed by diffusion annealing in the temperature range of 700-800*C results in considerable improvement of corrosion resistance of the carbon steel substrate. Aluminium spray followed by diffusion annealing at 400*C improves both the surface hardness level and the corrosion resistance of the untreated carbon steel substrate.
