Abstract

The paper presents in brief the occurrences of graphite and its uses, and specifications laid down by crucibles, carbon bricks, battery industries, etc. The common methods of beneficiation adopted for dressing of graphite are briefly outlined. The results of beneficiation studies undertaken in NML and elsewhere on a number of low grade samples collected from various parts of India are briefly presented. Systematic beneficiation studies were undertaken on three low grade graphite samples from Andhra Pradesh and the results are also summarized in the paper. The samples analysing 19.7-21.9% fixed carbon could be beneficiated, by froth flotation, to yield graphite concentrates analysing 74.0-79.0% fixed carbon. The concentrates conformed to the grade and size requirements laid down for their use in foundries and for paint manufacture. (Shri P.V. Raman and Shri S.K. Banerjee, Scientists; and Shri P.I.A.
