Abstract

The Indian Standards Institution has recently formulated a provisional standard for 45% Al2O3 refractories for use in blast furnaces. The desirable properties of these refractories have been examined in the light of British experience. Improved manufacturing processes adopted in continental practice and their impact on the properties of the product have been reviewed. Some available Indian raw materials have been discussed and their utilisation in the manufacture of high refractories has been commented upon. (Mr. H.P.S.
