Abstract

An attempt has been made in this paper, to discuss the general mechanism of impingement corrosion failures. The paper further discusses the various methods of impingement corrosion testing in the light of factors affecting the results and methods of impingement corrosion mitigation. Under actual operating corrosion of any material is affected, not only by the corrosive environment but also by other physical and mechanical conditions prevailing in the system. The attack due to this conjoint action sometimes leads to disastrous failures. Some of the well-known cases of conjoint action are stress corrosion, corrosion fatigue, cavitation erosion, impingement corrosion etc. (Mr. Raj Narain, formerly, Scientist, Marine Corrosion Research Station, NML, Jamshedpur)
