Abstract

Corrosion of oil tankers has been discussed covering three phases of their use, namely, ballast, empty and cargo. The cargoes, in general, are not so corrosive and the tankers suffer corrosion mainly owing to the exposure to O2 and seawater. Various remedial measures e.g., (i) elimination of oxygen, (ii) use of inhibitors, (iii) protective coatings and (iv) cathodic protection, have been discussed. (Mr. K.P.
