Abstract

Polarisation studies of 1100 and 3003 aluminium electrodes have been carried out using potentiostatic method to find out the passive nature in ethylenediamine. Aluminium electrode shows active, passive and transpassive nature in ethylenediamine. Critical current density of the electrodes and pH of the solution measured after polarisation decrease. The break down potential for 3003 aluminium decreases till 0.5% concentration, and thereafter it increases to a value of 400 mV in 0.1% ethylenediamine. Passive nature of aluminium electrodes has been observed because of the presence of lone pair of electrons of N atom of NH2 group and O atom of water molecules.
