Abstract

Electro-slag melting studies were made on the change in chemical composition, inclusion type and content and ingot structure of plain carbon, ball bearing and high speed steels. It was found that sulphur and inclusion content could be reduced upto 70 percent, silicate and sulphides were reduced to the minimum and the cast ingot structure was freed from axial porosity and segregation. In the case of high-speed steels, carbides were evenly distributed. (Messrs R.D. Gupta, Scientist, PK. Gupte, Scientist and Dr. B.R.
