Abstract

The authors studied the electro-chemical method for determining nitrogen, which is in solid solution potassium tartrate and sodium chloride solution, the metal crystals break down liberating the atomic nitrogen which escapes as gas. Samples of plain carbon steels and low alloy steels were anodically dissolved and the gases liberated were collected and analysed for nitrogen. Reproducible values for nitrogen were obtained with plain carbon and low alloy steels. (Messrs A.N. Chatterjee, Senior Scientific Assistant, N.G. Banerjee Scientist and Dr. T.
